Customers who operate an Azure subscription to host Virtual Machines will be able to deploy an Identity Maestro server Virtual Machine from the Azure Marketplace starting Friday, July 20, 2018. This article will discuss the following:

Announcing the Identity Orchestration and Management Portal virtual machine in the Azure Marketplace

What is the Identity Maestro server in the Azure Marketplace

The Identity Maestro server in the Azure Marketplace is a virtual machine of a Windows server that has been prepared to meet all of the system requirements to manage Active Directory on-premise, Azure Active Directory and Office 365. The virtual machine includes the installer file for Identity Maestro, and PDF guides you need to get started.

Identity Maestro is a a combination of a set of website hosted in IIS on a Windows server.   Those websites host web applications that include:

  • a web application that people can use in a web browser to manage uses and groups in Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, or eDirectory.
  • user mailboxes in Office 365 and Exchange On-Premises.
  • assign Office 365 license seats to users during a user create process or change license assignments after the user is created.
  • build custom manage tasks.
  • enable user self-service.
  • all actions are recorded into an audit log.

Identity Maestro is not designed for mobile devices; it requires a desktop with keyboard and mouse.

Public Availability

Date Available:  Friday, July 20, 2018.

How to get help for Identity Maestro

You can contact our success team to ask one of our identity management specialists for help with configuring and using Identity Maestro.

How to deploy the Azure Marketplace Identity Maestro server virtual machine

To deploy this VM into an Azure subscription:

  1. Log into your Azure administration portal and select to add a new Virtual Machine.
  2. Search for Identity Maestro.  There should be two Virtual Machine choices available.

  3. Select the virtual machine and click Create.
  4. In Step 1 - Basics:
    • Provide a unique computer name.
    • Select HDD or SDD for the VM disk type.  HDD is less expensive but offers slower performance.
    • Provide a suitable username. This will become the local administrator of the Windows server virtual machine.
    • Provide a strong unique password.
    • Select your subscription.
    • Use an existing Resource Group or create a new Resource Group. Note: We recommend that you plan where you want to deploy Identity Maestro into a Resource Group and VNet that will permit connectivity to your Active Directory domain controller.  To manage Azure AD and Office 365, Identity Maestro requires an on-premises Active Directory domain to serve as a "Primary Directory".

    • Scroll down and select your Location.

    • Click OK

  5. In Step 2 - Size select a size for the virtual machine.  B2s is a good size with sufficient disk space, RAM and virtual CPUs at a moderate operational cost.  The minimum recommended VM should include 2GB of RAM and 2 vcpu's. You can always upsize the virtual machine if you need to improve performance.

  6. In Step 3 - Settings:
    • For production servers, we recommend configuring High Availability if available.
    • Define a new VNet or select an existing VNet.
    • Configure the desired subnet.
    • Accept the public IP address and network security group.

    • No extensions are required.
    • We recommend scheduling auto-shutdown for trial / evaluation scenarios.
    • Choose to enable or disable monitoring.
    • Choose whether to manage the service identity.
    • Click OK.

  7. In Step 4 - Summary review the offer details and click Create.
  8. Once the virtual machine is available, configure it to support RDP.
  9. Configure IP and network settings to match your environment.
  10. To access the virtual machine, use RDP to computer-name\administrator-name, e.g. democoim\amvmadm and the password use set when creating the virtual machine.
Notes:
1.    Identity Maestro virtual machines available in the Azure Marketplace have been updated with the CredSSP update.  If you experience an issue with RDP to the virtual machine, ensure that your local desktop is updated with the CredSSP update.  See https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/4295591/credssp-encryption-oracle-remediation-error-when-to-rdp-to-azure-vm for more information.
2.    Look in the C:\Identity Maestro Get Started folder for the Identity Maestro installer and documentation PDF guides.

How to set up the Identity Maestro server

Once your Identity Maestro virtual machine is deployed and you RDP to the virtual machine:

  1. Open Windows Explorer.
  2. Navigate to the C:\Identity Maestro Get Started folder.
  3. Open the Identity Maestro Get Started for Azure Marketplace VMs PDF file.

  4. Follow the instructions starting at Prepare Connection Service Accounts (page 11).
